The music of 16 Horsepower, associated with the rock scene in Denver, Colorado,
was steered from the early 1990s and for over a decade by guitarist and singer
David Eugene Edwards. It flirts with everything that North America has to offer
in the way of root music: bluegrass, blues, country, gospel and electric rock.
Incandescent lyrics inspired by the fables of the American West and the Bible
have given this band a strong identity, expressed on a handful of essential
albums from Sackcloth 'N' Ashes (1997) to Folklore (2002), including the live
Hoarses (2001).
