Agnes Baltsa was born in Lefkada, Greece in 1944. She took an interest in the
piano from an early age before turning to singing, perfecting her mezzo-soprano
voice at the Greek National Conservatoire. She made her on-stage debut in 1968
in a Frankfurt Opera performance of 'The Marriage of Figaro' before moving to
the Vienna State Opera where she performed the role of Octavian in 'Der
Rosenkavalier' in 1970. Other notable roles in her career include 'Cavalleria
Rusticana', 'Samson et Delilah' and 'Les Contes d'Hoffman'.
