Born in Richmond, Virginia in 1943, Al Foster's career as a top performing jazz
drummer has spanned five decades. He moved to Harlem as a child and was immersed
in the world of jazz, attending shows by many great musicians such as Miles
Davis, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Buddy Rich, Philly Joe Jones and Dave
Brubeck. These experiences inspired the young drummer, and he made his recording
debut aged 20 on Blue Mitchell's 'The Thing to Do' (1964). He began to play in
clubs, and toured extensively with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Sonny
Rollins, Joe Henderson and Stan Getz...
