Albrecht Mayer is one of the world's most renowned oboists. From Erlangen,
Germany, he began his musical career as a chorister in Bamberg Cathedral, and
then studied the oboe with Gerhard Scheuer, Georg Meerwein, Maurice Bourgue and
Ingo Goritzki. He gained orchestral experience with the European Community Youth
Orchestra. His first professional appointment as oboist was with the Bamberg
Symphony Orchestra, where he was appointed principal oboist in 1990. In 1992 he
left to become principal oboist with Berliner Philharmoniker, a position he has
held ever since.
