Founded in 1765, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra is a Norwegian orchestra
based in the city of Bergen. Originally called the Det Musikalske Selskab (the
Music Society), their first conductor was Samuel Lind (1765-1769). They later
changed their name to Musikelskabet Harmonien before opting for the Bergen
Filharmoniske Orkester (Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra). The oldest of the
Scandinavian orchestral orchestras, it has included Beethoven's Symphony No. 2
in its repertoire since 1804, during the composer's lifetime. After the
