Betty Everett was an American soul singer most famous for her million-selling
hit single 'Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)' and the duet she performed with
Jerry Butler, 'Let It Be Me'.
Everett was born in Greenwood, Mississippi in 1939. She began singing gospel
music and playing piano at the age of nine and at 18 moved to Chicago to pursue
a career making secular music. She recorded for several small Chicago labels
before signing with Vee-Jay Records in 1963. After a couple of lukewarm releases
