Singer and songwriter Birdy was born Jasmine Lucilla Elizabeth Jennifer van den
Bogaerde on May 15, 1996 in Lymington, England. She was nicknamed Birdy as a
baby by her parents because of the way she opened her mouth wide when being fed.
Her delicate ballads and ethereal indie folk swiftly made her one of the UK's
brightest young stars. The great-niece of legendary actor Dirk Bogarde and the
daughter of a concert pianist, she was taught to play as a seven-year-old and
came to attention when she beat 10,000 competitors in the nationwide UK Open Mic
