A longtime figure in the UK's indie rock community, Bobby Gillespie drummed for The Jesus and Mary Chain during the mid-1980s before rising to greater heights as the frontman of Primal Scream. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on June 22, 1962, and formed Primal Scream in 1982. Although the group began playing live shows that same year, progress was initially slow, with Bobby Gillespie splitting his time between Primal Scream and The Jesus and Mary Chain.
