The American R&B singer and producer known as Cautious Clay was born Joshua
Karpeh on January 30, 1993, in Cleveland, Ohio. He began learning music
production by remixing beats for friends while studying at George Washing
University. After graduating with a degree in International Affairs, he
relocated to New York City and worked as a real estate agent before deciding to
become a full-time musician. Preceded by the single "Cold War" (2017), Blood
Type, his debut EP as Cautious Clay, came out in 2018 and was followed by a
