Charles Earland was a jazz and soul jazz organist and synthesiser player who
began as a saxophonist with the legendary Jimmy McGriff's band in 1960. Earland
switched instrument in the latter part of that decade before forming his own
band. By the late 1970s he was making disco/funk recordings with Randy Muller,
the keyboardist and producer from Brass Construction. Earland was, however,
firmly in the jazz tradition and continued to write and record until his death
in 1999.
