Amsterdam-born Cimo Fränkel grew up under the influence of 1980s music and his
funk musician father. By the age of 15, Fränkel was already showing an interest
in music production and its techniques; he also started writing songs for other
people. This included writing the opening theme to the 14th anniversary of the
founding of the Johan Cruyff Foundation in 2011.
Two years later he signed his first major recording contract with the Dutch
Talpa Music company - later a subsidiary of the BMG organisation. This strong
