Cory Wong, born around 1985 in Poughkeepsie, New York, and raised in Minneapolis, began his musical journey with piano lessons at age nine before transitioning to bass and guitar. Influenced by funk, rock, and jazz, Wong honed his craft through local jazz performances and collaborations in Nashville. In 2013, he joined Minneapolis' Dr. Mambo's Combo and connected with Vulfpeck, contributing to their albums and co-founding The Fearless Flyers.

Wong released his debut solo album in 2017, followed by The Optimist (2018) and Meditations (2020), among others. His 2021 variety show, Cory and the Wongnotes, showcased his multifaceted talents, leading to collaborations like Power Station (2022).
