Creed was an American alternative rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in
1993 by singer and guitarist Scott Stapp, guitarists Mark Tremonti and Brian
Brasher, bassist Brian Marshall and percussionist Scott Phillips.
They began performing regionally and after Brasher left in 1995 they continued
as a foursome; in 1997 they released their debut album 'My Own Prison which went
to number 22 on the Billboard 200. It features hit singles 'What's This Life
For' which topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs Chart and went to number ten
