Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme originally formed Eagles of Death Metal as an
experiment crossing the soft rock style of The Eagles with hardcore death metal,
although Homme later described the results as "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with
stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals." Their output was sporadic due to
the success of Homme's other band, Queens Of The Stone Age, but their debut
album Peace, Love, Death Metal in 2004 produced several tracks that caught on
with the American public, several of them used in TV commercials and the
soundtrack of the movie Thank You For Smoking...
