Japan's Funky Monkey Babys formed in Hachiōji, Tokyo in 2004 and mostly maintained a hip-hop sound throughout their nine years as a group. Comprising MCs Funky Kato (ファンキー加藤) – MC and Mon-kichi (モン吉) and DJ Chemical (DJケミカル), the trio released their heir first single, "Sono Manma Higashi He," in 2005 and their debut self-titled album for Dreamusic Incorporated in 2006. The following year, the band rose to prominence for their 2007 single "Lovin' Life."
