The son of an Irish father and a Polish mother, Huey Lewis was born in New York
and brought up in California, teaching himself harmonica while hitch-hiking
across America, often sleeping rough. He also busked his way around Europe
playing blues songs and, on returning to the US, gigging in the San Francisco
Bay area. Lewis joined the band Clover, recording two albums with them, and
changed his name to Hughie Louis - later adapted to Huey Lewis. He also played
