American indie pop/dream pop trio Ivy formed in 1994. Initially, singer,
songwriter, and musician Andy Chase began searching for a musical partner and
had placed an advert in 1991. Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Adam
Schlesinger responded to the ad and the two began a long-lasting musical
partnership. In 1994, they met transplanted French vocalist Dominique Durand.
The three shared a love of the same bands – Prefab Sprout, The Smiths, The
Go-Betweens, etc. – and they decided to join forces in a musical project.
