Vicksburg, Mississippi, January 1, 1918 - Chicago, Illinois, April 18, 1974 One of the very few mandolin players in the blues (he actually uses his electrified instrument as a guitar), Johnny Young was among the pioneers of post-war electric Chicago blues, recording the classic "Money Takin' Woman" in 1947. Young went on to play ghetto clubs and the Maxwell Street flea market, where he came to prominence in the '60s. He went on to record a number of albums for white blues audiences, and toured Europe several times.
