A highly-regarded K-pop vocalist and dancer, Kai performed in the boy bands Exo and SuperM before debuting as a solo artist with 2020's self-titled Kai. He was born as "Kim Jong-in" in Suncheon, South Korea, on January 14, 1994, and began taking dance lessons while still attending grade school. Kai joined the multi-lingual pop group Exo in 2011 and appeared on the group's string of Number 1 singles, including 2014's "December, 2014 (The Winter's Tale)," 2015's "Love Me Right," 2016's "Monster," 2017's "Ko Ko Bop," and 2018's "Love Shot."
