Ken Colyer’s Jazzmen was a New Orleans jazz-influenced British group founded in
1953. Their debut release is now considered one of the most important albums in
British jazz history. Trumpeter and cornetist Ken Colyer was born in Great
Yarmouth, Norfolk, England on April 18, 1928. He had a reputation in the jazz
world as a purest and had no interest in altering his musical vision in order to
embrace commercialism. His music journey began when he joined the Merchant Navy
at the age of 17, traveled around the world and ended up in New Orleans,
