Born in Herne Bay, Kent, on August 16, 1944, Kevin Ayers is the legendary bassist and singer of the psychedelic British bands of the 1960s and 1970s. With his accomplice Robert Wyatt, he formed Soft Machine, the band behind the famous Canterbury sound. An engaging singer and musician, Kevin Ayers then embarked on a solo career studded with cult albums such as Joy of a Toy (1970), Whatevershebringswesing and Bananamour (1973), not forgetting the famous live album June 1, 1974 with Nico, John Cale and Brian Eno.
