Once Mekel is the stage name of Elfonda Mekel, an Indonesian pop-rock singer and
former lead vocalist of legendary rock troupe Dewa 19. Born on May 21, 1970 in
Ujung Pandang, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, Mekel cut his singing teeth in high
school bands and various other groups before taking his first steps as a
recording artist in the early 1990s. He provided a track for the compilation
album Seribu Angan (A Thousand Dreams) but was subsequently forced to take a
