Jazz double bassist and producer Peter Ind was born in Middlesex, England on
July 20, 1928. At the age of 8, he began studying the violin, but switched to
the piano six years later. Influenced by the music he heard on radio broadcasts
during World War II, he started playing publicly by the age of 16. After taking
classes at the Trinity College of Music in London between 1944 and 1946, he
switched to bass and took lessons from Tim Bell and James Merrett. By 1947,
