Formed in 1973, Showaddywaddy were the amalgamation of two Leicester bands, The
Choise and Golden Hammers, making them an eight-piece with an unusual line-up
featuring two singers, two drummers and two bass players. They got their big
break on UK TV talent show New Faces, winning one show and becoming runners-up
in the All-Winners Final, resulting in their self-written debut single Hey Rock
& Roll, which reached Number 2 in the UK charts in 1974. It was the first of 22
hits - mostly rock'n'roll revivalism tracks - including covers of Eddie
