After a promising spell with the Small Faces (where he was replaced by Rod
Stewart in 1969) in the '60s, this rhythm'n'blues-fed singer founded Humble Pie
with Peter Frampton of The Herd, and was, for a time, a hard rock superstar in
the USA. After the disappointing reformation of the Small Faces in 1977 and then
of The Herd, he pursued a much more discreet career in English pubs, until his
tragic death in a fire at his manor house, just as he was about to reassemble a
project with Peter Frampton.
