Growing up at the time of Jamaica's great sound systems of the 1960s and 1970s,
Sugar Minott worked as a studio apprentice at Coxsone Dodd's legendary Studio
One before going on to become the Godfather of Dancehall. Learning to sing in
his church choir, his sweet, soulful voice led to early hits Vanity, Hang On
Natty and Mr DC, before his style grew from roots reggae into the sparser, more
romantic, lovers rock style of his classic album Black Roots (1979). He moved to
