They enjoyed immediate international success with the albums The Hurting (1983), which included the songs "Change" (#4), "Pale Shelter " (#5) and the classic "Mad World" (#3), followed by Songs from the Big Chair (1985), ranked #1 in the U.S. (#2 in the U.K.), which brought the hits "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Shout", both ranked #1 across the Atlantic (#2 and #4 respectively in the U.K.).
