The Civil Wars
The Civil Wars have won Grammy Awards both as Best Country Group and for Best
Folk Album, although their style goes much wider and entertains rich elements of
pop, rock and many other things besides. Joy Williams and former Nuthin' Fancy
band member John Paul White - who'd both previously released solo albums -
starting writing and performing together after meeting at a songwriting camp in
Nashville in 2008. They decided to call themselves The Civil Wars while looking
at various Civil War monuments. Having a good reaction to the free release of an
