The Monks, an American rock band formed in 1964 by five GIs in West Germany,
revolutionized rock with their experimental style. Initially performing as the
Torquays, they released a self-financed single in 1964. By 1965, they
transformed into the Monks, adopting an avant-garde approach with hypnotic
rhythms, feedback, and confrontational lyrics, challenging societal norms and
