Thione Seck was one of the most influential artists in West African history,
fronting the iconic fusion band Orchestra Baobab during the 1970s before
pioneering the Senegalese genre of mbalax music with his own band, Raam Daan,
throughout the 1980s. Born in Dakar, Senegal, on March 12, 1955, he was raised
by a family of Wolof griot singers and joined Orchestra Baobba's lineup in 1974.
Still a teenager at the time at the time of his enlistment, Thione Seck remained
