Tyrone Davis was born Tyrone Fettson on October 3, 1937, in Greenville,
Mississippi. He moved to Saginaw, Michigan, before settling in Chicago in 1959.
Initially working as a valet for bluesman Freddie King, he began singing in
clubs and was discovered by Harold Burrage. Under producer Carl Davis, he
adopted the surname Davis and signed with Dakar Records in 1968. His
breakthrough hit, Can I Change My Mind, topped the R&B charts, followed by Turn
Back the Hands of Time (1970) and Turning Point (1975).
