Born in Dakar, Senegal in 1950, Wasis Diop is a guitarist who holds a special
place in the history of African music. His blending of Senegalese folk and
modern pop and jazz reached international audiences and has inspired generations
of musicians to follow in his wake. In the 1970s, he left Senegal and traveled
to Paris, France to study engineering. However, he shifted his focus to music
and formed the West African Cosmos with fellow Senegalese musician Umbañ U Kset.
