The genre-defying electronic duo Yello are Switzerland's most famous music
export. Originally formed in 1979 by keyboard player Boris Blank and sampler
Carlos Perón, the two musicians decided they needed a vocalist to augment the
sound. They chose Dieter Meier, variously described as an industrialist, a
gambler, a conceptual artist, a film director and at one time acting as the
Swiss Cultural attaché. Meier's suave image was the perfect foil for an
experimental, ground-breaking electronic band and his knowledge of film-making
