The eldest son of reggae legend Bob Marley, Ziggy and his siblings Stephen,
Sharon and Cedella grew up singing together as the Melody Makers, and came to
attention when they performed at their father's funeral in 1981. The band's
early albums veered towards a clean pop sound which drew derision from the
purists, but when they switched labels to Virgin Records the change resulted in
the classic album Conscious Party (1988), which won the Grammy Award for Reggae
